We’re excited to have Sarah with The Refill Effect offering her refillable home and bath care products in the lower level at SymBowl Kirkwood from 9am-noon Saturday, Nov 30th. Come by for a smoothie and learn about sustainability from a neighbor bringing some amazing options to our community.
Here’s her story:
“It all started with lotion. My household had slowly been cutting back on waste and consumption for years when I decided I wanted to significantly cut back on single-use plastics. When we ran out of shampoo: shampoo bar. When we ran out of tissues: handkerchiefs. When I ran out of lotion.... *crickets*. All the lotions and body moisturizers I found came in plastic bottles and tubes. The more I looked, the more my eyes were opened to the lack of options for people wanting to move away from plastic in their everyday lives. I felt like I was standing in sea of plastic. I tried to find a local refill shop so I could refill the bottles I already had, but it didn’t exist. I’ve recently begun asking my children, instead of “what do you want to be when you grow up?,” “what problems do you want to solve?” So, when this problem presented itself to me, I knew I wanted to try to solve it. Every day at The Refill Effect, I’m working to bring you options for refilling household goods while cutting back your waste: in your trash can, at the curb, in the landfill, and in the ocean. The products you want without the packaging you don’t: that’s The Refill Effect. Together let’s build a community committed to decreasing waste. One choice at a time. One person at a time. One refill at a time. For the good of the planet.”
